DragonflyMagicART Studio is a private group on Facebook that I created for anyone who would like to carve out a little time on a regular basis to explore creativity. Ah, I can hear you now stating that you don't have a creative bone in your body, that you can't draw a straight line, or you have been told you are not creative. Well I say phooey!!
Everyone is creative! Yes, really. Each Wednesday for the last 18 weeks or so I have posted a video that is usually between 15 and 30 minutes in length. We cover topics including slave quilts, where you might find your creative inspiration, and techniques such as watercolor, photography, drawing, acrylics, and what different supplies you might like to try. Want to try washi tape, there is a video covering it! I even talk about the history of washi tape.
We start with an art journal of any size that feels good to you. Every week the video prompts you to add something to your journal based on what I talk about and show you on my video.
These are not just demonstration videos. For example, I talk about what slave quilts are, how they came to be, and where you can still find them. Then I demonstrate how to create a “quilt” in your journal. Need some ideas on supplies, that was the first video where I talk about brushes, paper, paints (watercolor, acrylic, etc.), palettes, containers, and many more items to make your creative journey fun and easy.
You are welcome to post work you have completed or are working on, and share it with the DragonflyMagicART community, but it is not required. This creative time is for you. You don't have to share your work, no requirement, no judgment.
In 2024 I will begin hosting Zoom open studios of about one hour in length. It will be an opportunity to bring something to work on – a painting, drawing, photography, illustrations, collage – and join in discussions with like minded people about what you are working on, ask questions if you are stuck, or just sit and listen to others talk while you create.
